The Diggin's

Sunday May 31st Spencer headed up to Tracy to go to Jacob's mission farewell while the kids and I headed up to Sonora to spend the day with my family at the Diggin's.  First we had a wonderful picnic lunch made by Nana at the Columbia state park and then the kids, Papa, titi and I headed in to the The Diggin's.
The Diggin's is an annual reenactment of an 1852 Gold Rush tent town in Columbia.  It really feels like stepping back in time.  You pay to get in and then you trade your money in for a little bag of gold coins which you use to to buy things.  It is a really cool activity.  All the workers are 100% in character and make it really fun.

Aubrey got to learn how they did laundry back then.
Even papa joined in to help.

Carter learning how to write with ink.
We also got to tour some homes and shops.  The kids bought these cool fans with their gold.  They also bought a rock.  We then did some gold planning.

Carter was a big fan of the sarsaparilla soda it's kind of like root beer.

Papa taking a break enjoying some beef jerky that Aubrey bought him.
It was really fun and a perfect learning day for the kids.  After the Diggin's we headed over to the rocks to climb around.
Then we enjoyed a yummy ice cream treat.
It was a great day and a fun segway into summer!! I already felt like we were on break but we had 1 more week to go....
