Weekend before Halloween

Like I said in the last post we took Friday the 24th off to go up to the bay area to visit with family from Utah.  It was such a nice treat to see Spencer's sister Terry and husband Kimball it had been about 3 years.  We drove to Hayward on Friday and meet up at our favorite burger joint, Val's.  It was a great lunch and fun catching up.  We then took the kids to the movies to see The Book of Life.  After that we went home to grandma and grandpas and relaxed, visited, played at least 10 rounds of rummikub and enjoyed Chinese food.  It was great being with them.  Saturday we woke up to rain, yay! Here are some family pictures we took before we left:

After saying our good byes we drove to Sonora where we got to go to Tit's new place and get ready for trick or treating down the main street in Sonora.  We were a little worried since it was raining really hard.  Aubrey started to sing a song for the rain to stop just for the activity and sure enough the rain stopped right at 4pm when we left to start walking.  Nana made Aubrey this beautiful cloak for her Anna costume (isn't she amazing!) and she did Carter's super cool goatee

It was really fun.  All the stores had someone in the front giving out candy.  Most of them were in costume too.  In front of the used book store they gave out free children books.  The rain/cold made it feel super fall..y.  I guess we also made it on the Sonora local news paper but I haven't seen it yet.  After our hard work of walking up and down the street getting candy we all warmed up in the local coffee shop and looked through the goods:

Then we went up to Columbia for the pumpkin lighting event.  I think the rain scared a lot of people off since there was hardly anyone there but we still had fun.
Columbia  has so many great backgrounds for pictures as you will see.

We then ventured up to the old school house.  It was pretty spooky up there.  We even saw a grave yard.  It was the perfect day with the gloomy weather and being so close to Halloween.

It started getting dark so we headed to the Peppery for dinner, so yummy!
Then we got to sleep over at Tit's house for the first time.  We enjoyed lots of candy and watching Hocus Pocus.

Sunday morning Nana and Papa came over and we had a delicious brunch made by Titi/Laura.  The pumpkin cinnamon rolls are still calling my name.  After that we all went to the movies to see Alexander and the No Good Bad Day.  It was a really fun movie and a great weekend being with both our families!

Bones Field Trip

Thursday October 23rd was Aubrey's field Trip to the Anthropology department at Merced College. I had know idea we had something like that here.  Ms. Buttry's class is the only class that goes on this trip.  She is friends with the professor.  It was really cool.  We walked from Peterson to the college and then had a pizza picnic.  The kids got to run around and then we started on our tour of the campus and then to the class room were we learned all about our bones.  We learned how to tell the age of someone by their skull and their gender.  It was really interesting.  The kids then got to rotate to different centers to touch and feel all the bones.

They even got to hold a sheep kidney. (Aubrey and Sonny)
 and a cows eye.

These are the kids at her table at school, Aydia, Mia, Sonny, Aubrey, Bryan and Selena.
Then the kids got to make a life size skeleton, how cool is that?

It was a GREAT day!  I love getting the opportunity to be with Aubrey on these kinds of trips. I'm so happy with all that Aubrey gets to do and be exposed too! If her teacher isn't  already the coolest she invited me to a girls night out that night at the fair grounds.  It was a dinner/vendor fair/ raffle night.  She gave me tickets for 3 other friends so Murun, Susan and Wendy came with us.  It was so much fun! I wish I would have gotten a picture of us all dressed up for a night out but I forgot! I did snap this one to text to Spencer to show him how many people were there:
On to our busy Halloween weekend next post........

Oh October you were a busy month!!!

How is it already the middle of November?? October was a bit of blur it went so quickly but we sure had fun!!
Monday October 20th was my planning day.  It was under the sea week and Carter choose Sharks! It was a fun day and I didn't get nearly enough pictures.  The kids read a book all about sharks.  The discovery was an awesome matching game that got the kids to know the difference between different sharks (Nurse Shark, Lemon Shark, Tiger Shark, ect.) For art we made shark hats and for snack we made a yogurt parfait that looked like the ocean.  Oh and the song was Baby Shark we are still singing that one everyday!

The week of 10/20-10/24 was color week at Peterson. Monday was red day, sadly I didn't get a picture :(  Tuesday was yellow day:
Love the attitude!
Aubrey was excited that she had a fake hair clip thingy for every color.
Wednesday was green day:
Thursday was orange day (also our bones trip see next post)
and Friday was blue day but we took the day off to visit family in the bay area and Spencer's sister from Utah.
Here is a picture from crazy sock day the following week:
Also in October Aubrey got a pin at Girl Scouts for starting her next year as a Daisy.

This was just a cute picture of my little man!
This post was a bit random but I wanted to make sure I posted these pictures.
