Deucie Guy

Deuce Oliver Supinger
December 12, 2005-September 9th 2019
We had to send our beloved little Deucie Guy to heaven on Monday September 9th 2019.  It's been so hard for me to sit down and actually do this post.  Deuce was more than our pet doggie he was our first baby, best friend and a perfect companion.  Deuce was part of our lives for all our firsts.  Our first house, first anniversary, bringing our babies home and so much more.  He was truly the BEST dog we could have ever asked for.  Right after we got married we knew we wanted to adopt a puppy.  In Utah we came close to adopting one but decided not to since we were in an apartment.  When we moved to Merced and were renting a house we went straight to petfinder.com to find a dog.  After lots of searches we found a litter a puppies down in Fresno that were up for adoption.  I was in love right away Spencer on the other hand said lets just go and look.  Well we drove down to Fresno and went to a lady named Mary's house and met the littler of puppies that all had the letter O for their first names.  Well the most cute puppy in the bunch Oliver came running to us and passed me up and jumped right into Spencer's arms as if he knew he had to win him over in order to come home with us.  Well he did... he won both our hearts and got to come to his forever home.  The drive home was so much fun holding our new little guy! We originally thought we were going to get a beagle and we wanted to name him Deuce Bigalow the beagle after the movie. Even though we didn't get a beagle the name Deuce still stuck and we named him Deuce Oliver.  Also known as Deucie, Deucie Guy and Deuce.  We sure were heads over heals for our new puppy and loved being his owners.  We tried to have him in a box to sleep but he let us know right away that he wanted to be next to us and from that night on he slept in our beds with us.  Deuce was special he never ran away from us.  There were many times he would come outside to take the trash out with us and on accident we would come in and close the door after a few minutes when we realized we forgot him we would open the door and there he sat on the door mat waiting.  Deuce had many trials in his life 2 cancer scares, getting attacked by a German Shepherd and witnessing a robbery in our house.  All of those scary things made him such a strong dog.  He loved walks, driving in the car and eating everything! He was great to have when the kids were in high chairs because I never needed to sweep! Deuce was a great watch dog and would scare the UPS man.  We got to take Deuce on many family vacations.  The kids loved Deuce and both of them said Deuce as one of their first words.  We love and will love Deuce forever.  He will be in our hearts forever!
Here are some pictures I found of our little guy!

This was last Christmas.
Our vet was wonderful and helped us through this hard time.  We were grateful to have them.
We love you Deucie more than you will ever know!
Thank you for being my best friend!

The end of August 2019

Unfortunately the end of August was very hard for us all.  When we got home from Cancun we noticed that Deuce was not acting himself.  He was struggling to jump up on the bed and couch he wasn't eating everything in sight and he just had a sad look on his face.  Since he was going to be 14 in December I assumed it was old age.  I also though it might be his arthritis acting up.  I made him an appointment on the first day of school.  Well after the vet looking him over and listening to his tummy recommend we do an xray since she thought she heard something weird going on in his abdomen.  Well after the xray we got the worst news ever.  Deucie was diagnosed with cancer of the spleen.  He had a huge tumor in his stomach.  Given his age (13) the vet did not recommend surgery. If we did surgery it would take over a month to recuperate and even after that his life expediency would only be a couple months.  Surgery seemed like it would be too much on his little body so we opted not for that.  The vets prognosis without surgery was 20-25 days.  We were devastated!!!!! Deuce was our first baby and we could not bear to think we had only a month left with him.  The vet assured us that he was not in pain and that for the next 20 days to just love on him, feed him anything he wants and let him sleep as much as he wants.  When I left the vet that day I was so heart broken and had know idea what the next few weeks would hold for our special little guy.
The hardest part was watching Deuce's strong playful body deteriorate so fast.  We went to the vet on the 14th and on the 15th he had a mini seizer when he got home from walking to the mail box.  That was so hard to watch.  It was also hard to see him not want any food.  I took Millie out on a walk and Deuce sat by the door and cried it broke my heart but I knew he didn't have the strength to walk.  Spencer had a great idea to use our wagon! So we went on a walk everyday and Deuce loved sitting in the wagon.

Deuce had been such a wonderful pet to us that I wanted to do everything right the next few weeks and give him as much attention as possible but life still has to go on and I still tried to be happy and positive with the kids.  Aubrey looked so cute in all her back to school clothes!
I made some fun care packages for the teachers.  Thanks to Nana for helping with them!
Our neighbors foster cats so we went over to see the little babies they were so cute!
